2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Oak Grove completed the 2016 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Oak Grove finished sixth in Class 4A region four with a 4-3 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 381 points last season. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2010 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2004 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Oak Grove had a very good offense last year, scoring 30.6 points per game, but it couldn't keep up with a defense that gave up 38.1 points per game. Since 2010, Oak Grove has gone a combined 30-41. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 4A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Oak Grove has managed to compile a record of 127-130. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 4A and 199th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Pat Burchfield who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Oak Grove. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Burchfield. Coach Burchfield's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 4-6 (40.0%). The Oak Grove Tigers will play in Class 4A region four during the 2017 season. With a little luck and some improvement, the Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season. Oak Grove has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2010 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Tigers open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Brookwood on Friday, September 1 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Brookwood Panthers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in sixth place in Class 6A region four. The Panthers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Holt by a score of 50-12 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Oak Grove and Brookwood have met a total of 46 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 17-28-1 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with Brookwood winning by a score of 29-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
